What is the difference between web development & web design?

Seeking at our Google Analytics, we can see that businesses are looking for both Web Design Company and Web Development Company. These concepts are now nearly synonymous as "web corporations" shift how they describe their services.

The truth is that the names refer to two fundamentally different components of the website development process that necessitate two distinct skill sets. Why is it critical that you understand the distinction when looking for someone to design and develop your company's website? Let's see if we can clear things up.

Web Design vs. Web Development

In essence, web design applies to both the aesthetics and usefulness of a website. To construct the layout and other visual elements of a website, web designers use numerous design applications such as Adobe Photoshop.

Web developers, on the other hand, take a website design and turn it into a working website. To bring the design files to life, web developers employ HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and other programming languages.

Web Design- A closer look

Web designers must always start with a client's website objectives before moving on to an Information Architecture (IA) to establish a website's information hierarchy and help guide the design process. Web designers can then begin producing wireframes before proceeding to the design stage. Web designers can employ a number of basic design principles to create an aesthetically beautiful layout that also provides a great user experience.

Principles of Design

Balance - It is critical that site designers develop a balanced layout. In web design, we distinguish between heavy (big and dark) and light (small and lighter) elements. It is vital to use the proper proportion of each to get a balanced website design.

Emphasis – We touched on this briefly when discussing contrast. Emphasis is a design strategy that is based on the deliberate "highlighting" of particular critical components of a website's layout. It's worth noting that if you emphasize everything on the page, you'll wind up stressing nothing. Consider a book page where 80% of the material is highlighted in yellow...does anything stand out? This is the moment to consult the Information Architecture for guidance.

Contrasting- colours are those that are opposite one another on the colour wheel in colour theory (see also complementary colors). Aside from web design, there are a few additional areas where contrast is useful. Designers consider contrasting sizes, textures, and shapes when defining and drawing attention to specific portions of a website.

Consistency- sometimes known as repetition or rhythm, is an important web design principle. Clean and consistent navigation, for example, delivers the best user experience for your website visitors.

Unity - The relationship between the various sections of the website layout and the composition as a whole is referred to as unity.

Web Development- A Closer Look

Web developers, often known as programmers, take the design and turn it into a fully functional website. Simply put, think of the design as a non-interactive "image" of a website. Developers take that design and disassemble it into its constituent parts. They then create the numerous website pages using either HTML alone or a more dynamic approach that incorporates programming languages such as PHP. More experienced web developers may opt to use a Content Management System (CMS) such as WordPress or Joomla to speed development and provide clients with a simple way to maintain and update their website.

A static layout can be converted into a dynamic website by using picture and content sliders, active states for links and buttons, and other interactive features.

Final Words

Small and medium-sized businesses looking for a new website or a redesign of an existing one may be perplexed by the blurred lines between the terms "Web Design" and "Web Development." While some people can do both, many businesses have dedicated designers who create the website layout and then hand the design files over to a programmer who completes the development stage. Hopefully, this post can dispel the frequent assumption that design and development are synonymous. if you want to become a web developer then join this online web development course.
